ROSEARK

I have always had a thing for organic-looking, rough-hewn jewelry. Hammered metals, bizarre settings, and unique gems fascinate me. While most of the time Forever 21's ridiculously inexpensive jewelry will do the job, sometimes a girl needs a special, one-of-a-kind trademark piece. For my birthday this year, my sister and husband decided to buy me a necklace I had been wanting since seeing it in Lucky magazine 3 years prior. I'll never forget the description of the carved wooden manta ray necklace: "Equal parts sinister and cute." It's hand-carved and from the West Hollywood store called Roseark, although the store used to be called Kaviar and Kind. With diamond eyes, the manta is available in carved wood, bone, or mother of pearl in your choice of yellow, white, or rose gold. Sienna Miller has the bone version like the one pictured above, but mine is dark, carved from wood, and hangs from a yellow gold chain (see picture to left). My favorite way to wear jewelry is to mix inexpensive with expensive, and always a vintage piece or two of my grandmother's thrown in for good measure.

Palm Springs + Louboutins

I apologize for being away for so long, but I've been feeling so sore. Unfortunately I do not have an outfit post to reveal, but I will let you in on next week's plan. I'm also preparing for my trip to visit my mom and sister in the Pacific Northwest, and I am so excited! I haven't seen my mom and chihuahua for over 2 years. I've also been missing my tea parties with my big sister, so I am leaving next Wednesday morning. Pete is also leaving that morning for a job interview in San Francisco.

These black Louboutins are my favorite black heels due to their dominatrix edge. Pete took these pictures of me at the Parker Hotel in Palm Springs, and it's definitely one of our favorites. It's decorated by Jonathan Adler, and we're huge fans of his pottery and snobbery. I'm craving the demented Liza Minelli needlepoint pillow, and I already have her chipped tooth coin purse. It's quite special, as I carried it to my wedding reception.

On to next week's plan: I'm currently inspired by Carly of www.chicsteals.blogspot.com and her picture of the cut-out leggings. I remember seeing this on Rodarte's runway, and I thought they would look fantastic with my black heels. Runway picture: courtesy of www.thesidewalkisarunway.com.

Thar she blows.

I recently saw a television special about a beached sperm whale. Unfortunately, the kind sir did not survive, and had to be transported through the streets of Taiwan. A technical glitch with transporting his huge carcass resulted in his body blowing up, covering the streets with whale blubber and intestinal matter. I've schedeuled a similar fate with this guy and two sticks of dynamite.

This is my weimaraner named Tippy. The chihuahua belongs to my sister and her name is Lola Bean. The chapstack belongs to Pete.

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls

A variation of my daily outfit. Lately these shorts from American Apparel are the only shorts that will do. I'm beginning to amass quite a collection. I apologize if some of your comments were deleted, but I was attempting to edit the lighting in the photo. A few of you mentioned liking the tube top. I actually purchased it at Target two years ago because it reminded me of a shirt that I had when I was 6!

I'm loving the sunburst mirror on the wall behind me. My husband made it recently. He's constantly working on little woodworking projects, and is currently building a hi-fi. He's obsessed with mid-century modern.
